Comment period: 12/19/2020 - 1/2/2021; Voting Period:  1/4/2021 - 1/8/2021

Current By-Laws

As deemed necessary by leadership council to amend  CTC by-laws periodically, a standing committee  currently comprised of Mary Bauer, Loree Vick and Becky Johnson presents the following  proposed amendments.  These need to be perused by general membership for review and comment for a period lasted no less than 14 days, followed by a vote by the general membership lasting no fewer than 5 days. Adoption requires a simple  majority.

  1.  Under Article II, section a. the mission statement shall read, “ Support SAFE recreational cycling for the physical and social benefits of its members”. Adding safe to this portion of the statement encompasses changes club needed to make to keep members safe during COVID.

  2. Under Article V, section under Club officers, section c.  the Website director position shall change its name to IT director. This is to better describe the myriad of duties now being expected by this individual.

  3.  Under Article VIII, paragraph 3, the nominating committee shall be comprised of a chairman appointed by the Council and at least one additional member. This is to alleviate difficulties finding members to sit on the committee.

Please add your comments. Voting will begin on night of January 4th and conclude on January 8th.  The adoption can then take place at the Annual Meeting on Monday, January 11, 2021.

Thank you on behalf of the By-Laws Revision Committee

These changes make sense. I would only reinforce that SAFE recreational cycling is a given for any bicycle club worth joining! (I do not mean to be sarcastic; it should be self evident.) However, the Club did pay for select members to become LAB certified in safety and the intent was to have them posting or routinely reinforcing safety issues or hosting clinics (with club support) for new and old members on select topics periodically. This has long gone by the wayside. I would love to see it resurrected as there have been several rides I have attended on varying days and groups where simple commands like, CAR BACK do not result in the group moving into single file. This is particularly troublesome when it is only a two lane road (not two lanes in one direction). I feel this gives the club a bad reputation and should be addressed. Thanks for listening. The Council is doing a great job overall and I support the adoption of these changes.

Thanks Julie! this topic however is not part of bylaws revision committee, but worthwhile for an agenda item for regular LC meetings.

Recommended edit for the third amendment...."the nominating committee shall be comprised of a chairman", the word, "chairman", should be replaced by the word, "chair", or even "chairperson". Most commonly in the CLE+ area, I have experienced the work, "chair", more often than "chairperson".
