The Horsey Hundred - Register Here!
The Horsey Hundred is the premier cycling event of the Bluegrass Cycling Club. We’ve come a long way since the inaugural Horsey Hundred was held at the Kentucky Horse Park (Lexington, KY) in 1978. The first event featured a 50 mile route option on Saturday and Sunday with an optional Century ride on Saturday. Riders were provided with maps, but there were no road markings and rider support. Participants were, however, treated to a slide show and movies at the Horse Park Saturday evening. No records exist of how many participated the first year, but the next year (1979) had sixty-five participants. From 1980 – 1982 the Horsey Hundred was held at Midway College (Midway, KY). By 1982 the number of riders more than tripled to over 200. In 1983 the Horsey Hundred moved to Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY which remains our home today.
Through the outstanding efforts of many volunteers (more than 350) from the Bluegrass Cycling Club the Horsey Hundred has grown from a relatively small bicycle ride to major cycling event. Over 2,000 riders from all over the country and internationally now participate annually. The weekend begins with fun and festivities on Friday, featuring optional rides throughout the Bluegrass Region, a large number of cycling related vendors, food trucks and entertainment. Saturday is the flagship day with five route choices ranging from 25 miles to the iconic Century. Post-ride Saturday you will enjoy a scrumptious meal at Georgetown College as part of your registration. Saturday evening the cities of Georgetown and Midway offer you party options featuring food, drink and live music. Sunday you have your choice of four rides ranging from 25 – 75 miles. Before you leave for home or for more fun in the Bluegrass you’ll be treated to a post-ride meal under the Big Tent. On either day you will wind your way through and around the Bluegrass region and be treated to some of the most beautiful scenery you can imagine including horse farms, stone fences, rivers, streams, lush pastures, historic towns, and bourbon distilleries. And, one of the recurring comments we get is how nice our roads are. The ride is fully supported with rest stops featuring the right nutritional items chosen to fuel your ride, onsite and roaming mechanic support and SAG support in case you need it. Oh, and we do provide some “tasty treats” along the way, like orange and root beer floats.
