Introduction to Safe Road Riding
For riders of all levels of experience - learn to ride safely and in a commendable manner!
Learn - your rights as a bicyclist and techniques to be visible and predictable to motor vehicles. Topics include:
- bike safety checking
- lane position and switching
- signaling
- emergency stops
- quick turns and basic group riding
This is a League of American Bicyclists program taught by League Certified Instructors. Includes 1.5 hours of class and 1.5 hours on your bike.
Preregistration online is required. The cost for the program is $15 or $25 (class only or class + CTC annual membership) for non-Cleveland Touring Club members. Class cost for current Cleveland Touring members is $5.
Preparation - Before You Come:
Bring to the session everything you need to ride your bike that day plus comfortable shoes to wear inside for the classroom portion. Sessions are held rain or shine!
Equipment - have your bike, helmet and bike lock ready to go
Bike - safety-check your bike before class
Helmet – you MUST bring one to ride in this class, and it must fit your head size and hairstyle
Ride Clothing – wear comfortable shoes and clothes but no sandals or saggy pants
Cleated bike shoes with "clip-in" pedals - OK but know you may be unclipping often.
Medication – bring yours, such as an asthma inhaler, etc.
Cancel and Wait List Policy:
Please check Class Schedule for the date, time and location of available classes. Non-members may cancel up to 48 hours in advance of chosen class date. CTC Members who miss a class and want to attend another session must re-register at the $5 fee. Note: After 48 hours before class your registration will not be refunded.
If you choose to be wait-listed, CTC will contact you 72 hours in advance of the class schedule date to confirm your attendance.
Emergency Contacts/Parental Consent:
At online registration, you MUST provide an emergency contact name/phone number. Students under 14 must be accompanied by an adult student (18 or over) who is a legal guardian, or designated as one on a signed parental release form. All students under 18 must be registered online by their parents/legal guardian.
